Directions: The length of a rectangle is 6 cm and its perimeter is 16 cm what is the area of the rectangle in square centimeters?

I think that the answer is 12 centimeters because it says that the length is 6 and the perimeter is 16 and to get the perimeter to 16 so I did 6+6=12 for the length so 12-_=16 that is 4 so then i split 4 in half and that is 2 for width so i drew rectangle and on the length sides i put 6 and on the width sides i put 2 then split it in half and drew 5 lines the opposite way then counted the boxes so thats how i got twelve.
